On 25th December 2025, Mumbwa Central Member of Parliament, Credo Nanjuwa, officially commissioned the Chikanda Rural Health Post in Nalusanga Ward, funded under the Mumbwa Constituency Development Fund (CDF) at a cost of over K1 million.
The facility comprises an incinerator, a three-bedroom staff house, a water reticulation system, and a maternity annex with inclusion of the facility furniture, in line with the President’s definition of a standard rural health centre.
Hon. Nanjuwa said the facility will serve as a hub for preventive care, treatment, and community health initiatives, reaffirming the government’s commitment to bringing healthcare services closer to the people.
The MP emphasized that the completion of the health post demonstrates the success of community-driven development supported by government policy. He reiterated the government’s resolve to improve access to quality healthcare and cautioned against the theft of drugs, stressing that essential medicines are adequately provided for public use.
Meanwhile, Council Chairperson Charlie Masumo thanked the MP for always being available to the people, as demonstrated by his continued support to the Chikanda community.
Speaking at the event, Mumbwa CDF Chairperson Mrs. Gracious Nkhete said the handover marks a major milestone in improving healthcare access, particularly for mothers, children, and the elderly.
She highlighted additional CDF benefits, including youth and women empowerment through grants, loans, skills training, and bursaries, and urged the community to work closely with civic leaders and Ward Development Committees.
Meanwhile, Mumbwa District Health Director Dr. Katherine Kulumba noted that the facility will serve about 7,500 people and they will no longer have to travel long distances to access primary health care services and deliver in homes.
Senior Headman Shamakanda thanked the government and called for community cooperation with health personnel.
