Mumbwa ,1 December,2025, Mumbwa District today joined the rest of the world in commemorating World AIDS Day under the theme “Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response!”. The event was held at Lubemba Clinic in Mupona Ward, bringing together community members and key stakeholders to reflect on progress made in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
In his speech, the Council Chairperson, Mr. Charlie Masumo, highlighted the importance of building a resilient and community-driven HIV response, especially in light of reduced external funding. He emphasized the need for local innovation, strengthened prevention efforts, and renewed unity as the district continues working towards ending AIDS by 2030.
The commemorations were attended by the District Health Director, Dr. Kathrine Kalumba, a representative from the District Education Board Secretary (DEBS), and officials from the District Administration, demonstrating strong multi-sectoral support for a healthier Mumbwa. Their presence underscored the shared responsibility in promoting access to health services and empowering communities with accurate information.
Also in attendance were partner organizations ChildFund Mumbwa and FAWEZA, whose continued collaboration remains key in advancing community education, youth engagement, and gender-responsive HIV interventions. Their participation reinforced the importance of partnerships in achieving sustainable impact.
During the event, Mr. Masumo acknowledged the unwavering dedication of healthcare workers and encouraged people living with HIV to remain committed to treatment. He further called on the community to reject stigma, embrace prevention, and support one another as a united front in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
As Mumbwa District, we remain firmly committed to strengthening our health systems, promoting community ownership, and transforming our AIDS response. Together, we will overcome. Together, we will protect our future.
