The Republican President, through the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Gift Sialubalo, MP, has reaffirmed Government’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery by handing over newly procured ambulances under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Delivering the President’s message on his behalf, Hon. Sialubalo described the handover as a significant milestone in strengthening health service provision and emergency response.
“The ambulances are a lifeline for many people as they are fully equipped to provide emergency medical care while patients are being transported. This is a true investment in the health and safety of our citizens,” read part of the President’s speech.
The Head of State further emphasized that the increased CDF allocation has empowered local authorities to invest in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, police services, and community infrastructure.
Also speaking at the ceremony were Lusaka Province Minister Hon. Sheal Mulyata, MP, the Permanent Secretary for Local Government and Rural Development, Mr. Nicolas Phiri, and a representative from Acquoes Limited. All the speakers stressed the importance of safeguarding the ambulances to ensure they serve the community effectively.
Council Chairperson, Mr. Charlie Masumo, hailed the occasion as a historic moment, noting that it was the first time Mumbwa and Nangoma Constituencies had received CDF-funded ambulances.
“This ambulance will help us save lives and provide faster medical response for our communities. We are grateful, and we will ensure it is well looked after,” he said.
Mr. Masumo was accompanied by Council Secretary Mr. John Machai, Nangoma CDFC Chairperson Mrs. Njomona, Mumbwa CDFC Vice Chairperson Mr. Chilobesa, and District Health Director Dr. Kathrine Kalimba.
The President’s message concluded with a call to the Ministry of Health to prioritize training ambulance staff in emergency response and first aid, while assuring citizens that Government remains committed to expanding healthcare access, including in hard-to-reach areas.
The newly handed over ambulance is expected to greatly enhance healthcare delivery and emergency response within Mumbwa District.
