GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY MARKS NEW ERA FOR CHIBOLYO WARD FARMERS

Mumbwa, 11th July 2025 – Members of the community yesterday gathered to mark the groundbreaking ceremony for a K800,000 agriculture water scheme in Chibolyo Ward. The project, to be constructed by Civilstruct Limited, will benefit six agriculture cooperatives in the area.

Gracing the event was the Southern Province Minister, Hon. Credo Nanjuwa, who emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the lives of citizens in rural areas through agriculture sector development.

“The water scheme will benefit thousands of people in the community, improving access to clean water for domestic use, agriculture, and livestock,” Hon. Nanjuwa said. “The project will also create employment opportunities during construction and maintenance.”

The Member of Parliament thanked His Royal Highness Chief Chibuluma and the Headmen for their active participation in the project’s development.

Mumbwa Constituency Development Fund Chairperson, Mrs. Gracious Nkhete, highlighted the project’s benefits, including drought response, all-year-round crop production, and market linkages. She urged the cooperatives to work closely with agriculture extension officers to ensure successful implementation and operation.

Council Chairperson, Mr. Charlie Masumo, thanked the community and Headman Kozo for providing land for the project.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including the District Agriculture Coordinator, Chief Chibuluma, councilors, and members of the Constituency Development Fund.

Project Details include
– 6-hectare irrigation coverage with a 10-hectare allocated area for irrigation
– 6” commercial borehole fitted with a solar submersible pump
– Wire-fenced solar array panels with electricals
– 12 x 5,000-liter tanks with 6m tank stands connected to irrigation drip lines
